Quilts and a Garden, Oh My

Quilts in the Oaks, Alden Lane Nursery, Livermore, California.
This nursery is a beautiful destination nursery on its own but
dress it up with quilts and you really have something special.

Freddy Moran quilter extraordinaire.  Isn't she
beautiful?  Meeting her made me so happy.

Brown Sugar Kitchen

Pumpkin Cottage is in love with October.
Yesterday, it rained.  We sat in the living room
with the front door open to listen to the rain.

Everything is a little bit greener and brighter.
In Southern California, the rain clears the air, calms
the dust, and perks up everything.

At the end of September, the get-along-gang,
got up before the crack of dawn
to travel to Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland, California.

For those of you unfamiliar with California,
it's long and the world's eighth largest economy.
We know what other states say
about us: steers and queers and a bowl full of nuts.

I would not have it any other way. California has everything.
Coastlines, lakes,  mountains, valleys, desserts, redwoods and the
mighty sequoias.  We have diversity in all that is California.
And this family loves their road trips and their good eats.

All seven of us had chicken and waffles and
coffee.  Every bit phenomenal.
We highly recommend a visit, even if, like us,
you have to leave home at 1 a.m.

“There is communion of more than our bodies when
bread is broken and wine drunk.”
― M.F.K. Fisher

What Jacob?  It's so good, you what
to visit again?

Time Time What Have You ....

They always say time changes
things, but you actually have to
change them yourself.
                          Andy Warhol

It has been a leisurely summer.  As we enter the final
week before the kids start school we count our many
blessings.

We are blessed to watch these two
grow and have the memories of
the first two.

It all happens too
fast.

Mr. Lee and I are masters of
slowing down the passage of
time.  By jam packing the
days and being very aware.

Among my most precious blessings: Family, the ability to walk, and creative
thought.

On Being Disabled

Life is not about how fast
you run or how high you
climb, but how well you bounce.
                    Tigger
                    A.A. Milne

I'm a doer, my greatest pleasure used to be
to keep moving.  Cleaning, organizing, gardening,
crafting, dancing and biking.  While my physical
ability is now limited, my mind is always bouncing.

My precious friends and family, like Jessica here,
are willing to play gently.  Travel at a slower pace.
And the two kids pictured with her are my go getters.
They are my legs.
They assist in too many ways to count.
AND their harmonizing voices fly me to the moon.

Everyone is burdened with more responsibility.
I imagine its the same
in other households lead by disabled parents.

Mr. Lee takes on the biggest chunk of the workload.
What helps lift our spirits is the laughter.
Yes, what little walking is done is always
done with a bounce.

A blessed Sunday dearest readers.

Room with a Past

Room with a Past, Walnut Creek

The Get Along is blessed beyond

are as dear as family.  Our children

Maybelline Roadtrip

For the past 8 years and a half years the Get Along has traveled
in Bad A** Mabel.  We've created lasting memories.  We traveled
with my mom and brought our beautiful little girl home from the
hospital.

Last Thursday, just before another road trip, Mabel's
warning service light went on.  Mabel will be fixed
by her new family.  She may have been vehicle, but to
us she was our ship to adventure.

We are not going to look back but forward.

Introducing Maybelline.
The Get Along heading north to the San Francisco
Bay Area.

A beautiful clear day.

A Little Fairy

You know pumpkins, sometimes it just takes a fairy.

                                      To Wong Foo,
Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar

To Wong Foo is a film I will have to watch more
than once. Messages like: pull yourself up by the boot straps,
make the most of it, celebrate the kindness of strangers,
embrace diversity because you never know where you
will find a friend.

Remnants of the Past April 2015

This venue wasn't as nice as the one in San Jose
or the Madonna Inn location.  It was too small.
Tight aisles make the experience less than
favorable.  Still lovely vendors and merchandise.

I like room to look in all the nook
and crannies.
