Betty's Pie Whole

Inside Sunshine Garden is Betty's Pie Whole.

“Cut my pie into four pieces, I don’t think I could eat eight.”
Yogi Berra

The two Jacobs eat pie.

Yeah, its that good.  Sweet and
savory pies.  We ordered one
of each, all good.  My favorites
were the meatball (turkey), key lime
and strawberry rhubarb.

Day Trip to Encinitas

Sunshine Gardens
doesn't look like much from the roadside but
then looks can be deceiving.  Round the corner
and a wonderland opens up for an afternoon
well spent.

Finding Your Tribe 2

It a wonderful when you find your people.
Years ago, I read an article in the
Orange County Register about a
woman named Mary Lou Heard.
Mary Lou had opened a tiny nursery
in Westminster.   The nursery was
tucked away on a hidden street.
Like many treasures, you'd never find the location
if you weren't specifically seeking it.

Mary Lou has been gone for a number of years
now, but she started something special.  Before
Annie's Annuals, another special place, Mary Lou
made cottage garden plants available.  Perennials
to make your English Garden taste buds salivate.
Even Tasha Tudor would envy the selection.

Today, on the original location of Heard's Country Gardens
resides Heavenly Vintage Nursery.  The property
has recently been sold and the nursery will be hopefully
find a new location.  In the mean time, please support
this treasure by stopping by to purchase your own slice
of heaven.  The nursery has a website and is on
Facebook, where you can find regular updates
on their status.

2016 Ash Wednesday, Lenten Time

The Lenten Season has always been my favorite
time in the Church.
A time to reflect and  to contemplate.
A time for sacrificial giving, for being thoughtful,
kinder, and fruitful. In a world so full of hate (grieving)
try to spread love.
Remember to say Please and Thank you.
Pray for the Poor.
Pray for Peace.
Pray for Forgiveness.

Jesus Christ says that we all must come as children,
no matter what our age, social standing,
or intellectual background.

                                      In My Father's House

2He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.
3And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become
like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
4Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is
the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Finding your Tribe 1

The glory of finding your tribe.

Recently, I found
Rice (pronounced like Reesa) Freeman-Zachery
watch this video on felting and this video of
frequently asked questions.  Rice's FAQ video

During a recent excavation mission, a
visit to a thrift store, we found this brand
new checked board cake pan.  Sadly, excavation
missions have been few and far between
because of all the Discardia missions.

Dropping off at charity shops but
no allowance for the hunt.
The beginning of the calendar
year is a very good time to hunt because
other ambitious families are also
tidying up their homes after the holidays.

We'll encourage her to bake a strawberry
and vanilla Easter/Páscoa.

February, What's Not to Love

Welcome, Dear Readers and thank you for
stopping by.

What to do after you have returned to work from
Total Hip Replacement? Plan day and road trips that's what...

Here's some of the things happening this month.

The Junk Bonanza in Del Mar, California

A roomy venue makes all the difference when
attending creative shows.  We like room to move
and be able to enjoy vendors' offerings.  Having
photo ops is a huge plus, extra points to the hosts
for assisting in creating memories of our
family adventures.

Having a place to rest and refresh with
tasty treats and drinks allows us to visit
longer. My preference is to take two trips
around the venue.  Photos are taken on the
first trip around because a second trip
will depend on my physical
ability and the mood of my family.
Most of the purchases are made on
second trip after I've had a chance
to assess all the offering.  If an item
is unique and it simply calls to your
soul buy it right away less you kick
yourself later.

2015  March Junk Bonanza

2015 March Junk Bonanza Photo Op

The Junk Bonanza Del Mar venue is a pleasure with lots of room
and amazing photo ops.  The Del Mar surrounding area has plenty
to offer families and singles alike.  Great place for a girlfriends
weekend. Perfect climate.

While in the area, we are planning to visit Betty's Pie Whole.

Sunshine Gardens, as those of you who follow this blog know,
we will travel for garden and nurseries, used books, fabric stores,
game shops, and record stores.

October 2014 Glitterfest

Glitterfest, we missed the October 2015
Glitterfest due to my surgery but February's opportunity
is right around the corner. Don't miss it.
