This hen lived in my mother's kitchen now she lives
in mine.
My mother's mortar and pestle. So special because I remember
my mother pressing flat leaf parsley, garlic and onion to make
molhu cru (raw sauce) for most family meals.
During this time of healing, I try to complete one simple task each day.
To recondition the wood,
I scrubbed the wood with coarse salt, washed with warm soapy water and
then rubbed mineral oil. Rub plenty of mineral oil and allow it
to dry. The mineral oil will all be absorbed.

This proud rooster is at least 50 years old. He
sat on the top on my mother's cousin's refrigerator before
occupying the same place of honor in my mother's kitchen.
Now he is entrusted to my kitchen.
I love the chickens. My grandmother always colletcted them. My grandparent's were chicken farmers all their lives. Makes me think of my childhood. Fun to have these treasures from family members.
ReplyDeleteDanette,
DeleteMy parents had a little farm. With cows, chickens and turkeys. My father allowed us to drag home all kinds of animals. Chickens are still among my favorites. Thank you for visiting.
