Four of the five of us were born
in a clump. Two in December and
two in January with my oldest brother
in May. Dulce rounds out the
birthday bash at the end of January.
My sister, Dulce is perfectly named.
She is the sweetest of us five kids.
She is the most obedient of us all.
While I broke boundaries and voiced
everything. Dulce was quiet and careful
with her feelings and words.
The photo above is one of my most favorites.
Dulce and our mother chatting it up here at Pumpkin Cottage.
My mother's look of pure satisfaction still brings the flow of tears.
She was looking at me brandishing the camera
but relishing the time with her remaining
daughters.
Doing what we often did once all the women's
work was done. Chatting while we crafted.
My sister's bright blue eyes,
dark brown hair and
perfectly rosey peaches and cream skin did not give
away her strong will or her tender heart.
Dulce loved the outside, the care of the
small farm animals and the kitchen garden.
All of us girls have carried the burden of
a chronic illness
with a glad and thankful heart.
Happy Birthday, dearest sister.

planting seeds
In process with Ali Edward's One Little Word 2015
My original word was Purpose,
but I know my purpose.
To the depth of my being, I know.
I know my calling.
Yet, I hide under a pile of life.
A pile of excuses, fear, and pain.
Both emotional and physical pain.
Maybe God will forget or engage with a multitude
of others, other people who need Him,
much more.
Sweet Child. The nails are not enough
to hold you here. You can only
live the life I'm
calling you to through the
love that I have given you.
The love that now has taken up
residence in your very being
and makes the wounds bearable.

Why NOT Hobby Lobby
When Hobby Lobby is recommended, my
response is, "I don't shop there."
Why I won't cross the threshold to shop at
Hobby Lobby.
I am a feminist.
My definition:
Women may choose to be homemakers,
wives or not,
stay-at-home, work outside of the home,
have babies or not, be mamas or not,
career women, soldiers, warriors, voters
and chiefs of their destiny.
I love women.
I am the woman who never ever,
although I had plenty of opportunity,
cheated with your husband.
Because even though I didn't know
you, I loved you, because you
were another woman...a sister.
I love men.
I love gays and lesbians.
All people.
I am called to love all
my brothers and sisters.
I am pro-choice NOT
pro-abortion.
It is not the same
thing.
I believe contraceptives were one of
the best things to come out of the
twentieth century.
I don't believe businesses have consciences.
Nor, do I believe corporations are people.
Thank you, God,
for giving me a heart and a brain.

French General: Jenny Hart
Oh my.
Have I shared how much I love visiting
French General in Los Angeles?
Not only is it a charming creative place,
run by the lovely Meng sisters,
peppered with visits by
their beautiful mother, but it is a
place to mingle, craft with
liked minded individuals, and
creatives.
Last Saturday, I had the pleasure
of attending a workshop with Jenny
Hart from Sublime Stitching.
My favorite color is green....Le Vert. Every shade and hue.
from light to dark. I love spring with all the greens showcased
on our surrounding hills and fields.
The best part of attending a class in getting
inside information on other crafts and
creatives, the tips your get from the instructor,
and the recharge to create.
Swoon, dear hearts.
French General is listed on the
side bar under Favorite Places
to Visit.

Words from my Mother
My mother was brilliant.
She would say the biggest
blessing is to have PEACE.
Peace encompasses it all.
Good health.
Good cheer.
Quiet.
Rest.
May you welcome peace into your
home and workplace during the
coming year.
Me, Dulce, Mother

Happy Birthday Big Brother
Deep in their roots, all flowers keep the light.
Theodore Roethke
My brother holds the light.
He keeps the light deep.
Unable to accept the joy.
The joy he makes and the the joy
he is given.
Be gracious today and accept your
worthiness.
Don't fight the wave but surrender.
Surrender. Allow the warmth of
unconditional love to encompass
your being.
Laugh, sing and eat well.
Allow all who are near to love you.
Submit to kindness.
Nothing necessary in return.
No score keeping.
We understand and accept the
tenderness of your heart.
Oxalá, que este dia repita por muitos anos.
Happy Birthday.
